The First Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards

Sometime around the January meet-up of the Filipino Book Bloggers, we were discussing some ideas for this year’s ReaderCon when this idea came up. It was pretty quiet for a while,  but just recently, we finally got rolling and look, here we are! Presenting the first Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards — an award chosen by us readers to honor our favorite Philippine published books! :)

The Filipino Readers Choice Awards seeks to engage the Filipino reading public in honoring their favorite Philippine-published titles. An initiative of the Filipino Book Bloggers Group, the Filipino RCA was established to develop awareness and appreciation of Philippine literature; recognize the reader’s role in creating the meaning and experience of a literary work; and give the readers a voice in the Philippine book industry.

Nomination period is up until July 22, 2012, and you can nominate any Philippine published book from January 2010 to December 2011 at the online nomination form. Categories include:

  • Children’s picture book
  • Chick lit
  • Novel in English
  • Novel in Filipino
  • Comics / Graphic novels
  • Short story anthology
  • Essay anthology
  • Poetry

We will be posting updates on the nominations and the short list in the next few weeks, so keep on checking back on this site for updates! The winners will be awarded on the 2nd Filipino ReaderCon, which will happen on August 18, 2012 at the Filipinas Heritage Library.

Now isn’t this more reason to go join us at the ReaderCon? :) It’s time we Filipino readers have our say. Now excuse me while I go nominate some of my favorite books.
