Filipino Fridays 2014 #3: What do you think of fanfiction?

Apologies for the late (as in super late, we only have two hours left) post. With all the flurry of preparing for tomorrow (All Soul’s Day, Nanowrimo for some, which somehow fits our question today), it’s shameful to admit that Filipino Fridays went to the backburner.

Without further ado, here’s our question for the third (what?! Third na?!) Filipino Fridays of 2014.

Fanfiction is pretty popular, no doubt about it, but it has been received with mixed feelings by many authors and writers. Some don’t mind it, and even welcome readers who give their own spin on their work. Some writers don’t like it at all, to the point that they contact fanfiction authors to take their work down. Others use it as a jump-off point for their own writing.

How about you? What is your take on fanfiction? Do you read fanfiction, and if you do, what kind of fanfiction do you read? Do you write fanfiction, and why? Or are you against fanfiction? Enlighten us.

There is no actual deadline for your Filipino Fridays answer, especially since we’re pretty late with posting the question. Post your answers on Tumblr, Blogspot, WordPress, or any social networking site, and make sure that it’s set to public. Leave a comment here with a link to your post, and don’t forget to check out everyone else’s answers. If you don’t have a blog but still want to join in the fun, you can also answer through Twitter, Facebook, or a simple comment here.

We’d like to encourage more people to join in, so go ahead and tag a few friends when you post your answers. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #filreadercon, too.

Oh, and a happy Halloween to you all!

Filipino Fridays 2014 #2 – Have you ever wanted to write a book?

A week has come and gone and it’s Friday again! Our second round of Filipino Fridays asks this question:

As a reader, have you ever thought about writing a book? What kind of books/stories do you want to write? Or are you now a published author, and what compelled you to go fulfil this dream? How was your journey from reader to writer? How did you go about getting your book out there?

I’m sure there’s plenty of readers turned writers out there, and we can’t wait to hear your answers. More authors, more great stories to read, right?

Post your answers on Tumblr, Blogspot, WordPress, or any social networking site, and make sure that it’s set to be viewable by the public. Leave a comment here with a link to your post, and don’t forget to check out everyone else’s answers. If you don’t have a blog but still want to join in the fun, you can also answer through Twitter, Facebook, or a simple comment here. Post at any time, when it’s convenient for you. It’s a great chance to interact and have fun with other Filipino Book Bloggers. Who knows, you might even meet each other at the ReaderCon! :D

We’d like to encourage more people to join in, so why not tag a few friends when you post your answers? Don’t forget to use the hashtag #filreadercon, too.

Filipino Fridays 2014 – Surprise, Reader!

Ahoy there! Did this post surprise you? It surprised us, too, in a way because we realized that this week, we only have a month to go before Filipino ReaderCon 2014. WAIT, WHAT?

And because we’re surprised, we also want to surprise you. ;) Say hello to this year’s Filipino Fridays!

If you’re new to this thing, Filipino Fridays is a weekly meme that started with the Filipino Book Bloggers, and has evolved into a yearly pre-Filipino ReaderCon tradition. Every Friday, a topic will be posted and all Filipino readers are encouraged to make their own post about it. Anyone can join as long as your post can be viewed by everyone else – you can post it on Tumblr, Blogspot, WordPress or any other social networking site, just make sure to set it to public. Leave a comment with your post, and we will have a round-up post every week so you can browse the posts and leave comments for the other participants. In case you don’t have a blog and you still want to participate, you can answer via Twitter, Facebook, or just leave a comment on the Filipino Friday post for that week.

You can post weekly, or catch up — whenever it’s convenient for you. Filipino Friday is a chance to have fun and interact with other Filipino Book Bloggers who you will most probably meet in person if you’re joining the ReaderCon with us. :)

This week’s topic:

Surprise, Reader! Hello, it’s the first week of Filipino Fridays 2014! Whether it’s your first time to participate or not, tell us a bit about yourself. More specifically, tell us about your favorite book discoveries for this year. Any author you started reading this year that you can’t get enough of? A book you didn’t think you’d like, but you ended up liking/loving? Any book series that you just have to get your hands on? Have you discovered anything new from Filipino authors this year?

We look forward to reading your posts! Posts will also be plugged through the Twitter and Facebook accounts, so make sure to tweet/tag us with your posts! :)

Happy Friday, everyone!
