Filipino ReaderCon 2013 Book Discussions

Three days left until the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon! It’s all busy behind the scenes, and we’re all working hard to give you a fun and memorable bookish event this weekend! Have you decided which panels to go to? We hope you have, and in case you want to go to two but can only make it to one (it all happens to us — if only we can split ourselves into two or something), don’t worry! We’ll be live tweeting the events and you can still catch snippets of them by following @PinoyReaderCon on Twitter, or by checking the #filreadercon hashtag. :)

Other than the panels, have you decided which book discussion you will attend in the afternoon? We’ve got a very interesting line up this year!

Flips Flipping Pages will be discussing the fourth volume of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series, Seasons of Mist. We hear there’s a surprise for Gaiman fans here, so if you’re one, make sure you don’t miss this!

If you’re a bit into classics, or if you love (or even hate) Austen, then come join Goodreads – The Filipino Group for some afternoon tea as they discuss Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. There might be some swooning. ;)

If you want to try some local fiction, however, join Pinoy Reads Pinoy Books as they talk about Edgar Calabia Samar’s Walong Diwata ng Pagkahulog. Tara na sa atisan!

And finally, if you’re into science fiction and you can’t wait for the movie adaptation of the book, then join Regina Marie Montessori’s Booked Up as they discuss Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. We are not sure if they will discuss books in null gravity, but either way, don’t forget: The enemy’s gate is down!

All book discussions will happen simultaneously from 3:05 to 3:50 pm. If you’ve never been to a book discussion or if you’ve always been curious about book clubs in the Philippines, then this is your chance to get a taste of the book club fun! Based on experience, there’s really nothing more fun than finding kindred souls to talk books with for hours. :) Get to know these book clubs during the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon: What Do Readers Want? on on November 9, 2013, 8:00am to 6:00pm at the Rizal Library – Ateneo de Manila University. This event is held in partnership with Rizal Library and National Book Development Board (NBDB), and sponsored by Buqo, Fully Booked, Adarna House, Samsung, Scholastic, Flipreads, OMF Literature, Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Island Merchants Corporation, and The Beachsters, with media partner When In Manila. See you there! :)

It’s a Monday and we can’t wait for another weekend!

Hello there! How did your weekend go? I know most of you are still tired and just dragged yourselves out of bed to go to work/school today.  Who doesn’t love long weekends, right?  :p

But hey, book lovers! Frown no more! It’s gonna be another big weekend for us, really, really soon! Yay! 5 days to go and it’s already the 3rd Filipino Readercon!  Which panel are you signing up for? Tough choices, huh?

And of course, what’s a readercon without a book fair?!? We have several exhibitors with hundreds of books on sale!!! Woohoo! List includes Ateneo Press, Buqo, Adarna House, NBDB, Flipside, William Rodriguez (Kuwentong Lasing, Tagay, Kapatid!, Pagtatalik ng Bolpen at Papel), Komikasi, The QBCCC, Visprint, and Pandora’s Books. Readercon will burn holes in my pocket, for sure!

Who’s excited now? Get a lot of zzzzs on Friday for it’s gonna be a long, bookish day on Saturday! *wink* See you on November 9th at the Rizal Library, ok? :)

You can pre-register for the 3rd ReaderCon here.

Filipino Friday 2013 #4: This is Still Reading, Right?

readercon2013-ff

We’re down to a little over a week before ReaderCon 2013, and I’m sure everyone’s excited (I know I am!). It’s awesome to see everyone participating in the Filipino Fridays, and behind the scenes everyone is busy as we count down the days.

It’s now the fourth Filipino Friday. There hasn’t been much change in the way books are written, but the way we read has changed. Reading paperbacks and hardbacks have developed into reading it on our computer or mobile phones and our electronic readers. Others would prefer to listen to audiobooks. So this week’s question is related to that experience.

Do you read (or have at least tried to read) books in other formats aside from print? How was your experience with these different book formats?

You can write your answer in your blog and leave a link (to the post, and not the blog) in the comments section below. Tag us at @PinoyReaderCon and hashtags #filreadercon on Twitter, or post it on Facebook (in your own timeline if it’s public or at the Filipino ReaderCon Facebook page). Alternatively, you can leave your answer in the comments section if you don’t have a blog or social media accounts. You can also catch-up with our previous Filipino Fridays.

Week 1 – Hello, Reader!
Week 2 – Kids and Books
Week 3 – The Pinoy Book Drop

Don’t forget! The 3rd Filipino ReaderCon: What Do Readers Want? will be on November 9, 2013, 8:00am to 6:00pm at the Rizal Library – Ateneo de Manila University. See you there! :)
