Filipino ReaderCon 2013 Book Discussions

Three days left until the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon! It’s all busy behind the scenes, and we’re all working hard to give you a fun and memorable bookish event this weekend! Have you decided which panels to go to? We hope you have, and in case you want to go to two but can only make it to one (it all happens to us — if only we can split ourselves into two or something), don’t worry! We’ll be live tweeting the events and you can still catch snippets of them by following @PinoyReaderCon on Twitter, or by checking the #filreadercon hashtag. :)

Other than the panels, have you decided which book discussion you will attend in the afternoon? We’ve got a very interesting line up this year!

Flips Flipping Pages will be discussing the fourth volume of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series, Seasons of Mist. We hear there’s a surprise for Gaiman fans here, so if you’re one, make sure you don’t miss this!

If you’re a bit into classics, or if you love (or even hate) Austen, then come join Goodreads – The Filipino Group for some afternoon tea as they discuss Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. There might be some swooning. ;)

If you want to try some local fiction, however, join Pinoy Reads Pinoy Books as they talk about Edgar Calabia Samar’s Walong Diwata ng Pagkahulog. Tara na sa atisan!

And finally, if you’re into science fiction and you can’t wait for the movie adaptation of the book, then join Regina Marie Montessori’s Booked Up as they discuss Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. We are not sure if they will discuss books in null gravity, but either way, don’t forget: The enemy’s gate is down!

All book discussions will happen simultaneously from 3:05 to 3:50 pm. If you’ve never been to a book discussion or if you’ve always been curious about book clubs in the Philippines, then this is your chance to get a taste of the book club fun! Based on experience, there’s really nothing more fun than finding kindred souls to talk books with for hours. :) Get to know these book clubs during the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon: What Do Readers Want? on on November 9, 2013, 8:00am to 6:00pm at the Rizal Library – Ateneo de Manila University. This event is held in partnership with Rizal Library and National Book Development Board (NBDB), and sponsored by Buqo, Fully Booked, Adarna House, Samsung, Scholastic, Flipreads, OMF Literature, Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Island Merchants Corporation, and The Beachsters, with media partner When In Manila. See you there! :)
